I'm trying to downgrade to 3.1.2 (info is stored on saurik's server) in order to jailbreak with redSn0w and use the 4.0 jailbreak via PwnageTools 4.0.1.

I downgraded my iTunes to 9.1 and proceeded to click Shift+Restore and located the stock 3.1.2 firmware.

I then get the "Apple is trying to verify restore..." message. Soon after, I see a 3194 error.

Any ideas how to bypass this error so I can restore?

Another question: Now that Sn0wBreeze is available, should I just use that? Never used it in the past so I'm not sure how reliable it is.

In windows you modify the hosts file so that instead of checking with apple, itunes will check with sauriks server.

I don't know how to do it on a mac, but i'm assuming that is your problem.

Im having the same problem, I was able to downgrade before as my shsh are on file and the host file is changed.

Do I need to downgrade iTunes and try again?

Are you in DFU mode? Downgrades must be done in DFU mode. You will end up with an error 1015, but can get past it by using redsn0w to jailbreak it.
