I'm downgrading my iPhone 2g. I'm using:

- PowerMac G5 (OSX 10.5.8)
- iPhone 2g
- pin connector cable

I started out downgrading from OS 3.X to 3.0 using iTunes 10. Then I used AppZapper to clear iTunes and downloaded iTunes 8.0. I created a new library and connected my iPhone 2g (iPhone OS 3.0, in DFU mode).

Now I get a dialog that iTunes can't connect to the iPod update server. Pretty frustrating.

Could it be that Apple has turned off update server for iTunes 8.X?

Alright, I get the same message with iTunes 10... :( My iPhone displays the USB and iTunes icons and my iPhone does not appear in iTunes. Just the update server message.
