Hello All,

I have searched here and also googled for an answer but have not come up with anything, although I may not just not be using the right search words. I recently purchased a new Mac Mini (High Sierra) OS 10.13.6. I am finding that when I download a file such as video clip that somehow the download stops. There is a message "download connection lost". Sometimes I am able to restart the download but other times it will not even restart. I reset the modem but that does not fix the problem. Has anyone experienced this and found a solution? MANY THANKS!

It does not seem restricted to any one site and there have been no issues with streaming. It only seems to happen when downloading things like film clips and excerpts to the desktop. I tested my download speed twice. The first time it was 11.1 and the second time 11.3.

Wired. It's a Windstream modem. Sorry if I am being to vague. This is really not my strong point.

Is this a DSL modem? Your computer is hardwired to the Windstream which then connects to the internet?

How are you downloading? Using the Safari downloader, other apps (such as a Youtube downloader)? Are you able to name the download sites you are using?

I am using the Safari downloader and no other apps, and the most recent occurrence was an effort to download from archive.org. It also happened at freemusicarchive.org. But I am not realizing something that I did not see before and that is when these failed downloads occur it is exactly a time when the internet goes out very briefly and then immediately restores itself. This has also happened when not downloading, that is during regular internet use. Sometimes there is an error message "you are not connected to the internet". Other times there is not message but I see from the modem that the internet is out but it always quickly reestablishes itself. Having googled this I have discovered that there has been a periodic issue with High Sierra but have not yet determined a solution.
[doublepost=1535650836][/doublepost]I should add to this that the internet disruption has seemed to occur more frequently during a download than with other internet function.

Sounds like an issue with your internet provider. How long have you been with them? Are there other options for you? Call their Help line, and if they are not helpful, threaten to switch. Make sure you have the next company in mind first!

I have been with my internet company for nearly 10 years, but this problem only began about a month ago when I purchased this new Mac mini. There are other options but I am now that I consider that the modem has not been replaced in all this time that maybe that is the issue.

That would certainly explain it. As Gregg2 said I would note down the times when the internet fails. Then call them and asked what happened at those particular times.
