I am not the biggest techie, so sorry if my questions seems dumb or impossible to do.

I am seeking to download a file through a file hosting service via Safari 5.1.2 on Mac OS X 10.7.2. This file is originally a .avi video file. However, it seems to have been erroneously named as "[file].avi.001". In order to correct this, I right clicked, and selected "Download Linked File As," then changed the text to "[file].avi". However, when I downloaded, I discovered that Safari had added back in the incorrect ".001". Is there a way to not let it do this or will I not be able to properly download this file?

if it has 001 on the end, it's likely a split archive.
In that case you would need the other parts and then combine them into the final .avi file using something like 7zip.

Ah. Never knew of that. I'll try it tonight and reply to say if it works.
