hi does anyone know where i can download perian version 1 beta from?

I have looked for a while and had no joy - as far as i can see perian have stopped the beta, but someone must still have it available for download right?

Perian 1.0 was posted to MacUpdate long enough for someone to get a copy of it to use for screencasts, it was never meant to be released to the public.

Chris Forsyth, the project lead for Perian, made this post regarding the mixup.

Hope that helps, and just be patient, Perian 1.0 is coming :)

I'm not 100% on whether this is a complete list of improvements, but before the beta was yanked off MU and VT, TUAW managed to post some (?) of the improvements.

Looks very cool, Apple need to bundle this with Leopard.

I could not possibly agree more. Having to download Perian or VLC seems like more work than necessary when Apple could just pick 'em up and bundle it.

Regarding Perian, I have a question... does anyone know why it is that a lot of web embedded DivX content refuses to play in QT using Perian (i.e. says no plugin is available), but plays in the DivX web player?

I have no idea, but my guess would be that the content is being embedded as something other than the standard DivX mime-type....probably something specific to the DivX web player?

    ...that's purely a guess, though.

perian won't play x264 in a non baseline profile. 1.0 should fix this.
