Download youtube and vimeo vids

Does anyone know how to download youtube and vimeo from safari 7.1, preferably using or to be opened in VLC

There is an extension for safari called FastestTube, which puts a download button below YouTube videos. Right click on it & you can choose file size to download.

Not sure about Vimeo. In the past you had to login to download. Don't know if its still that way as i don't use it.
