trying to understand how iCloud works...

1-->So anything that I have purchased from iTunes can be redownloaded onto my iPhone via iCloud, despite having lost the original files or information because iTunes has a record of my purchase?

2--->Once I download those podcasts or songs/albums onto my iPhone I can back them up on iCloud wirelessly?

3--->Once they are backed up wirelessly to iCloud, I can sync my iPhone with iTunes on my macbook pro and store them on my macbook pro?

Confusing for me, I have had quite a bit of trouble with iCloud and I'm trying to understand how this works.

    Thanks again-

What you are describing is not really iCloud (the service), but simply redownloading purchases from the store, which was already available before iCloud was introduced.

What exactly is your goal? If you just want to get your purchased content on the Macbook, simply go to the iTunes store on the Mac, log in if necessary, and click on "Purchased" under "Quick Links". There you should find all your purchases.

i lost some files on my mbp, so i was able to download them to my iPhone via iCloud then save them on my computer in iTunes. I can't redownload them from iTunes it doesn't allow me to do that for some ridiculous reason, despite the fact it says purchased. It seems that iCloud is a server system that allows me to interchange information that I have stored on it from multiple devices.
