Hey everyone, as most of you know my iPad Pro is my only computer after parting out my video editing PC. I’m fairly new to iOS, and I’m pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.

I need more audio content for videos, and on YouTube I found a few great channels that offer plenty of “non copyright music”

So I’d like to convert these YouTube videos to MP3, and save them on my iPad.

I’ve downloaded a file manager, with a browser built in.

Every time I hit download, it fails to do so. And says something about copyright problems related to the website that converted the video to a mp3.

It feels like apple and iOS is working against me at every turn I take here. This operating system is like locked down at every side..

Any help would be very much appreciated!

First, get a Mac or a PC. Hoping iPad as your only computer with iOS on it is creating trouble to your workflow, at least right now.

If that online conversion website does not work, try another one. There are quite a few and one of them could solve the problem. If you have a computer, download jdownloader. It can also convert YouTube video into MP3.

I had used this same technique before with success, and it seems like these sites that convert files are total garbage, and unreliable as I keep jumping to different ones. I downloaded a different file manager, so it seems to be working now.

I wish apple wouldn’t make us jump through so many hoops to do the simplest of task.

I believe Google has made strides recently to remove the ability to download videos (and in audio format). There are still ways but it's easier if you have a computer that you have some control over.

You're absolutely right about Apple going out of their way to make sure you can't do anything they wouldn't want you to do.

Unfortunately this looks like what apple is exactly doing. The action count for a user to manage subscription is ridiculous, more than 10. And adding a markup on an image using photos app takes at least 10 actions, not counting on those actions that are actually adding markups, such as typing.

Where are you getting 10? From viewing the photo it takes me three actions to be marking up with a Pencil.

iPhone does not get a pencil. So to start:
Tap image, tap edit, tap ..., tap markup. Four actions already.
Then, after finishing:
Tap done, tap done.
Two more.
Ok, not 10 actions but definitely not 3 actions either.

I just wish apple could change things a little. For example, I have iTunes and I pay for it ever month it cost $10 bucks. itunes has tons of copyright free music. This music is free to download, free to burn, listen to, copy or whatever you want to do. This same music on iTunes that is non copy right, gets hit with the same DRM protection in iMovie, or Adobe Rush as music that cost money does?? Makes no sense to me.

Apple really does force us to jump through hoops to get little stuff done. If we cannot even use iTunes for free non copyright music. Then I guess apple already expects us to download a file manager with a built in browser.

I really wanted to invest in this iPad because of the 1TB storage, 120HZ, 6GB of ram, and the killer A12X performance. The more I do with it, the more I have to do. Twice as much work, requires 25 more steps.

I hope iOS13 fixes all of these silly quirks. Maybe apple will give us some freedom.
I feel like my thumbs are in a straight jacket on iOS12.2

Sometimes I really do feel like I could get more done on a fast android phone.

I miss Utorrent lol, I miss a file system lol.

C’mon iOS 13! Help us strugglers. We’re are in a dilemma, I feel like this is the sleekest, fastest, thinnest, coolest device around. And there’s just nothing in comparison. But then, iOS comes in to play. I’m hopeful.

The lack of access to the file system and of access to external storage was originally created by Jobs and others to make piracy and copying music in general (like ripping CDs) as hard as possible, in order to favor purchases via itunes, which was the big business back then (preventing downloads, easy copying to devices, organizing folders, etc.). This was kind of one of the founding principles of IOS. Some improvements have been made with IOS 11, but my guess is that it will be a slow process. I hope to be proven wrong by the new management, especially now that itunes is no longer such a big deal.

IOS13 may just be where the line gets drawn. Enough is enough apple. These iPads are to damn powerful to be limited how they are. Apple needs to remove the governor, and let us hit the gas already. Seriously, I’m hoping all of the rumors are true. Multiples of the same app open, floating windows, file system, maybe even a integrated cursor with external mouse support. Then we could actually use those fancy new 4K or 5k external monitor the right way.
