OK I had this app called MyHomework on my iPod for the longest time and I used it constantly. Unfortunately my son deleted it when he was playing with it. So fine, I thought, I'll just re-download it again. HERE'S THE PROBLEM... I have a 3gen iPod touch (i think) (its the one that came out right before the one with the camera, but whatever) and the operating system isn't compatible with a lot of apps, including the newly updated MyHomework app.
so even though it was JUST on my iPod they're saying I will need a new iOS to be able to download it

IS THERE A WAY TO GET THE OLDER VERSION BACK ON MY IPOD????:confused:

Old Backup?

Have you tried going the old backup route?

In iTunes you can restore the device from your last backup.
Of course if you synced your device after the software was deleted, your recent backup will not help.
But in that case you can check if you have an even older backup.
If that fails, do you use Time Machine?
Find the iTunes device backup file and restore that file via Time Machine to a version older than the day the software was deleted - and then restore from that backup.
[Before you replace that file with a Time Machine copy, just to be save, keep a copy of that most recent backup file.]

Of course you will lose all recent modifications and changes on your device with that restore, but maybe it is not so long ago and you will not lose much. At least you should get that software version back...

It's a stoney route, and I walked it once, but it does work and should get you the software back.
Good luck! Hope you manage.

If Dreamail's suggestion doesn't work, you could try to:

  1. Sync your iPod with iTunes (this updates the MyHomework app on your computer)
  2. Look in your Trash/Recycle Bin for the recently deleted version
  3. Navigate to your iTunes music library
  4. Open the 'Mobile Application' folder
  5. Drag the outdated version into the folder
  6. Delete the newest version, which should be near the recently dragged-in app
  7. Delete the app from your iPod
  8. Resync

Happy iOS-ing!

Hi there,
If all your son did was delete it from the iPod, then the app should still be on your Mac or PC in your iTunes folder.
All you really need to do is connect your iPod to iTunes, then under Library select Apps. Search for the MyHomework app then double click it and it should reinstall it on your iPod.

iTunes stores all your apps, including ones you've deleted from your iPod/iPhone. The only time it trashes them is when you upgrade them. It keeps the latest version and trashes the older version. And what I've done in the past is keep a separate backup of all my apps so if I decide I want to go back to an older version (where possible) then I have that option.

Let us know how you go!

:)
