I accidentally removed my "Downloads" stack from my dock. When I re-added it, it is now sorting alphabetically instead of by most recently downloaded which is extremely frustrating. I changed trying the sorting option of my actual downloads folder to by date and re-adding it to my dock. However, this did not fix the problem.

Has anyone encountered a solution to this problem?

What OS? I have Yosemite 10.10.5 so my my answer is geared toward the OS I have available.
Right click (control + click) on the download stack icon, select Options>Date Added (in the Sort by section on top).

Simple as that, thanks so much! Was not aware you could right click stacks. Not sure why I didn't try...
