Why be so worried about the back? It's Aluminum!!! I think the cover is a great accessory especially since it gives you 2 stands and protects the glass. I don't use cases on any of my Apple products, they detract from the design and feel. The aluminum will be just fine.

People care about the back because of resellability. I know this because I sold my iPad 16gb wifi for 400$ about two weeks ago. Having a perfect condition iPad without scratch makes it a hell lot easier to sell it.
of course but if you are rich enough and can afford not selling the ipad after one year. of too poor that you cant afford purchasing a new model every year.
