Trying to play dota 2 here but it just way too choppy... lowering the resolution doesn't seem to help. Anyone feeling the same?

i wouldn't advise you gaming on a developer preview OS , just wait until it's released or maybe roll back to mavericks ! ;)

lol the point of a developer preview is to test everything there is to test :)

i would say it's to fix every bug and make it as stable as possible , if lowering graphics settings and resolution didn't help then it has to do with graphics drivers which is why i said to either play on mavericks or wait for yosemite ! ;)

No, it is to allow for developers to develop applications for the upcoming release.

Unless you're the developer of those games, then it isn't your problem and you shouldn't expect it to work.

On Retina it's much better to set your desktop resolution to 1440x900 or some other you want to play and then start dota and set that resolution. But standard resolution no HiDPI. And when you quit Dota just set back to best for retina.

But you should consider installing bootcamp. I used bootcamp then moved to OS X but for now i'm back in bootcamp and must say OS X is not a system for good Dota gaming. And it's not even about performance. More about wicked mouse sensitivity, hard to set properly, slowdowns here and there.

Just install bootcamp, then bootcamp in OS X (an icon so you click and it restarts into bootcamp)
It's much faster to restart into Bootcamp and start Dota in Windows then setting mission hot corners off, setting resolution and starting dota. Trust me;)

In bootcamp with retina you get 1080p max detail at 45-60 fps. If you turn off world lighting and specular you get around 90. And Ti4 is coming so you can watch games in 2880x1800 at 30 fps;) (it's good for watching but not best for playing)

That's the public beta, not the developer beta.

I don't see how you can be upset as this is a Developer Preview that is meant for Developers. It is not meant for playing games. The only person you should be upset at is yourself for having unrealistic expectations, especially this early in the Developer Preview.

I had a brief glitch on my 2012 MBP when I switched from light mode to dark mode, but otherwise it's been fine.

To be fair I don't think the OP said he was upset.

To be fair to the OP, some of us have accepted invitations through AppleSeed and we're not developers. And the instructions we've received from Apple are for us to use the DPs and report on general usability, issues, bugs and request enhancements. So the OP may fall in that group but if that is the case then technically he should be reporting the issue directly/internally to Apple not on these forums.

The unhappy Smiley that he used would indicate that he was upset.

It's a dp release, not even beta, it's to be expected. I'd be unhappy if this was happening in a final release lol

I remember playing SC2 in Windows 8 beta. It was basically unplayable.

I guess the same applies to OS X betas and DPs.
