What is the best Mac OS to have the max of the cable at the moment (hz, resolution and bit + hdr)?
I am using Ventura(13), but thought about updating to Sonoma(14) or Sequoia(15)?

Should I go for it?

I used the newest firmware from CM released in March 2025 LINK , and it works well so far. Has anyone else had any experience with it? Mac models M4 must use the newer firmware version. Iam on M1 MAX with an CM USB-C>HDMI Adapter VMM7100, i will report if issues like standby problems are resolved (Update: for me the standby issue is solved with this new firmware)

The release notes are:

- The new firmware resolves the issue of DPtool not working under macOS.
- After restarting the computer, the resolution for 4K120Hz RGB will be downgraded to 4K120Hz 420.

Info: Don't forget to set your HDMI input on your TV or monitor back to PC mode!

The new Firmware:

So I bought the new 201488 model USB-C to HDMI adapter and it didn't work right out the box like I was hoping. I saw that you posted this and went out and installed the EXACT firmware you are showing here on mine since I have an M4 air. It did not work. The attached image is what INTEL source is showing me which matches yours...

I even tried there built in updater tool and that didn't work either... I am not sure what else to do. I even tried downgrading to the firmware you installed in the youtube video but that didn't work either. I can only get 4k60. The moment I switch the refresh rate on my mac to 120, it changes the resolution on the TV to 1080p.

I am running macOS Tahoe 26.1

So I figured it out. It wasn't the dongle, or the cable, or my M4 Macbook Air, it was my Hisense U8H TV. After talking with cable matters, they said my firmware version on the dongle was correct and that the HDMI cable I bought was also good. For whatever reason, the Hisense U8H TV was causing the issue since I tested the dongle and cable on a LG G3 and it worked, 4k120. I am replacing the TV anyways since it has an unrelated issue, so I got a C5. Shouldn't have any issues with that.

Hey everyone, just got an LG C5 42" and am trying to get it to play nice with my 16" M2 Max Macbook Pro.

If i plug directly into the LG to my macbook all works well. Clamshell mode and 4K 144Hz VRR. But I am trying to make my one cable solution work.

Upgraded from LG C2 to C5 and now clamshell mode for 16" M2 Max Macbook Pro does not work on TS4 and Anker USB C to HDMI Adapter.

I cannot get 144hz VRR to work without screen going blank...

It won't work in clamshell mode. I always have to have my laptop open, this was never a problem before. If I close the laptop the LG does not get a source at all.

I am using HDMI 2.1 cable with the Anker USB C to HDMI Adapter and I can get 4K 120hz just fine. The moment I try to switch it to 144 or VRR screen goes black. All settings are good on the LG.

I si tnot possible to get VRR this way? Can I upgrade the firmware to make it happen?

Thanks!

Updated my CableTime USB-C->HDMI cable with VMM7100 from 7.02.112 to 7.02.116.

Used the VmmHIDTool included with the CableMatters from VMWare Fusion.

It continues to works fine. Haven't noticed any difference between 112 and 116.
