MP 7,1 DP Vs. HDMI on 7,1

In order to maximize use of the default 7,1 ports on a 12-core/580 is there any difference feeding my 4K monitor
via HDMI 2.0 Vs. DP ? The 580 has two HDMI ports thus freeing up one of the thunderbolt ports.

The monitor is an Asus PA329Q that has both HDMI 2.0 and DP ports.

Not sure if it's the HDMI port on the MP 7,1, my BenQ monitor, or my HDMI cable, but I was only getting 8bit over HDMI. DP and Thunderbolt gave me 10bit.
