Drag&Drop PDF app?

...or similar – is there a simple way of combining and optimising PDF files. I'd like to be able to drop them on a short cut on my desktop so they would combine into one doc and reduce in file size for quick emailing.

Get selected Finder items + Combine PDF Pages + Copy Finder Items

Save as a plugin for Finder and bobs your uncle, although it gives is an odd file name.

Have you tried building your own in Automator? There are "Combine PDF pages" and "Compress Images in PDF" actions which you could string together.

Cool, so if I set this up in Automator, can I have the process as an icon on my desktop or in my dock that I can drag the required files on to?

Yes you can, if you use the exact items I described you will have to select the .pdfs before you run the application from the dock.
