draining the battery = death?

A co-worker (whose word holds very little weight) was talking trash on the iphone (grrr) and I overheard him say that his dad has an iphone and he let the battery completely drain out (to try to maximize the battery) and even after he put it on charge, it never came back on again.

Sounds like a bunch of malarky to me, but anyone ever heard of such an instance (outside of blatant malfunction)?

It may happen, but what most likely happens is they let the battery drain completely, and when they go to plug it in it won't immediately turn on. Give it time to juice up before trying to turn it on.

+1. The battery actually needs to be drained monthly or so to accurately calibrate the battery. So, what you heard was BS.
