Er no it won't. I don't actually know anyone that likes any of it (and I am not just making that up). Rap/hip-hop isn't really music in the same sense that rock and roll was/is. Most of them don't play any instruments. Took over? Come on.

Your anecdotal experience doesn't count. Take a harder look at culture from the 80s onward and you will find hip hop influences all over the globe. As I've said hip hop, like rock and roll has evolved over the decades.

Hip hop is music in the same sense as rock and roll. Stop limiting yourself and open your mind.

Personally I don't listen to hip hop. But I am not blind to its influences

I like some rap and hip hop. I wont necessarily seek it out but some that I hear in passing is fine. But there is a lot of it out there and it's starting to run together and sound alike, kind of like "hair metal" did back in my youth.

If you ask me, this gives interesting insight into the audience that subscribes to Apple Music versus Spotify. Yes, Drake's album also set a record for single-day streaming on Spotify (as per the article). But for Apple Music to have a ~20mil streaming lead over Spotify with significantly less subscribers paints an interesting picture.

I am a fan of most music genres but the auto-tune/talking "rap" artists out there are so bad. I miss the days of early Tribe, Wu-Tang, Biggie, Outkast, and the Beasties just to name a few. I'm with Trent Reznor. There is little out there today that is exciting at the moment. I wish Apple didn't have an adgenda in their music organization and promoted different genres as equally as they could. The problem is, the crap they're pushing actually sells.

You have a narrow and old-fashioned view of what qualifies as a musical instrument. In my book, anything that can be used to create a sound which can then be creatively manipulated is a musical instrument. That includes the genre's staple piece of kit - an Akai MPC of some flavour - and a Mac or PC. Samplers like the MPC's allowed the artist to turn any everyday object or found sound into a potential music making object (as did tape decades earlier). Experimentation like that has been going on since humans started crudely banging on fallen logs with their hands. I find this narrow view of what qualifies as music, or what qualifies as a musical instrument quite bizarre.

With 89.9 million streams on Apple Music during its first 24 hours of availability, More Life was significantly more popular on Apple's streaming service than on Spotify, where it was streamed 61.3 million times.

I like that difference! It shows how Apple Music and Spotify complement each other and how they both cater to a different audience.

ADrticle title is wrong. It wasn't 90 million times more. It was 50% more or 1.5X than Spotify.

Hardly a surprise. They play 90% rnb/hip hop/rap. So I guess a large amount of customers are in that camp also.

I could've sworn his new album was streaming for free on Beats Radio a few days ago. Wouldn't that count as music streams?

You're basically being force-fed with what a small cartel of musical trendsetters feel like is the new thing.

It's basically soup of the day dictating what you eat.
You misunderstand me. I'm not saying it's the best system -- only that it makes sense that "Top Charts" displays songs at the top of the charts (AKA the most played songs over a given period).

Trying to rank tracks by what you or I think are best would be much too subjective. There are plenty of other ways to find music you like; you don't have to use the charts.

Maybe top rated? Play count doesn't qualify a song as a chart topper I wouldn't think. I feel like I get bombarded with crap music every time I go to the browse tab.

Seems like you are after "trending now", not top charts. LOL
Rated based on what? Star ratings don't connect to or influence Apple Music recommendations at all. Besides, 1-5 stars means something different to everyone. What you're suggesting already kind of exists, they give you recommendations "Since you like x, try y"

I think you feel that way because the music that is most popular right now just doesn't appeal to you. That's perfectly fine but it doesn't make any sense to try to tweak Top Charts for people who don't like popular music. There are plenty of other avenues with which to find music you like, even within Apple Music.
