Op, are you saying you were getting 7-8 hours of actual usage, ie. not counting standby, and you're not happy with that?
I'd be very happy with a consistent 7 hours usage. I average more like 6.5-7. My ip4 would do about an hour better.

Never ever returned an Apple product before (due to dissatisfaction) but this isn't good enough.

Ok, if that includes SB, then there's something wrong. I seem to average 6.5-7 hours use, with about 15-17 SB, there's room for improvement but it's not horrible. I used to get 8 hours or so with my 4, and the standby times almost seemed limitless! If I didn't use it, the thing stayed practically at 99-100% for a day or 2, the 4s doesn't do that.

It's now on 65% Okay, it might last the day, but not the night. Your stats as they are seem better, but I do a lot of phoning, not too much text stuff. I do think a previous poster had a point when they said battery meter was missing a trick

Many calls and text's the 4S is now reading 43% it's 9PM here in the UK, I guess it's going to last the day.
But my 4 is ready for sim swap around midnight. It's such a shame, it's a great phone,but if you have to keep worrying about battery life, then the fun is gone.
Anybody with a 3G iPad got any information to share?

I've noticed 2 things with my battery life.
1. It's no where near my iPhone 4's battery life, BUT still lasts me through the entire day. As long as it gets me through work, then I'll live with it. I do see myself looking at the battery a lot more.
2. I don't know why but my phone will charge to 100% then the second I unplug the charger it goes to 99. Doesn't bother me, but I've never seen it before with my 4.

I been having awful standby time out of my phone since I got the phone. Couldnt even get 10 hrs on standby so I cycled the battery a few times and I'm now on 3hrs 32 mins standby and it is still at 100%. before I cycled the battery I was lucky to have 60% in that amount of time. After about 10 charge and discharge cycles the battery should be at it's best performance.

Well 5hrs 30mins in and I'm still at 100%! By this time when I first got the phone I would be at around 45-50% under exactly the same circumstances.

Im at 7hrs 21mins and phone just dropped to 99% I would be at around 20% before the cycle on the battery.

Chronic insomnia, been that way for years. Whilst I'm here the phone is now on 32% so It's a little better, but not enough to shout about. I think Apple just loaded it with too much stuff.....I'm tempted to try turning siri, location services off next charge and use just as a phone.
But that defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place. Oh well I guess / hope Apple will sort it out.

My 4S luckily gets great battery life. As good as my 4 was. I usually have about 4 - 5 hours usage and 15 hours of standby between charges.
Odd thing is my buddies 4 has battery problems since he went to 5.0. 5.01 didn't help him yet. Hopefully, 5.02 is soon.
