Hi, is there a program that can turn scanned line art (that's been done with pen and paper) into a computer image that acts as if it were drawn straight on the computer (for example, you could fill a certain section with colour). Either automatically or if you can have it in the background, trace over it with your mouse tools, then take it away.

Hope you know what I mean

Thanks,
-Callum

Apps like Photoshop and Gimp have features to fill areas, which will do what you want.

Try out Incscape, it is free.

You will have to fiddle with the settings (depends on your scan and the desired results), but it usually gives good results.
The background of this website has been traced from a pen-and-paper drawing with Incscape: http://www.katrin-baecker.de/
Don't forget to 'simplify' the path after tracing, otherwise you will have to many nodes to edit it.

Have a look at a this Tutorial
