Hi, my apologies in advance if this is not the right thread or if this has already been answered before, please feel free to redirect me if so.
I’ve been wondering for quite some time now, and was never able to find definitive answers
I’ve read, mostly everywhere, that clicking on ads in iOS would not result in malware (like drive-by attacks), but what about exploits? Apple keeps pushing updates to patch vulnerabilities (for example, iOS 15.3.1: Impact: Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution). In what scenario (and to what extend) could maliciously crafted web content impact an iOS device?
I remember something along the line that some user’s devices were affected when they clicked on malicious links in an email (let alone 0-click exploits), so… what is the difference between a link in an email or clicking on an unknown ad on a shady website?
Lastly, an iOS device that would have been affected by an exploit, does an iOS update patching that exploit be enough for a device to be safe again? or would a device need to be factory reset?
Thank you for your time.
