Sorry for a question that has probably been done before

I want to upgrade to Leapord but save all my bookmarks, settings, dock items, passwords, apps etc.

SHould I do a basic upgrade? I also just bought an external drive and have my entire current machine cloned via carboncopy cloner.

I was wondering if I could do a clean install and then use migration assistant on the external drive ? Would that give me EVERYTHING I currently have or should I go ahead and do a basic upgrade.

Thanks

eV

Don't do an upgrade - can lead to all sorts of problems. Do an Archive+Install, which will replace the system directories completely, whilst not affecting your data, bookmarks etc.

Where would it archive to? I don't have enough room on my HD.

Can I connect an external HD and use that as an archive location?

Wouldn't it be just as effective to do a delete and install and then use migration assistant from my cloned drive?

The main thing is I need my apps, prefs, bookmarks, dock items etc to look the same.
