could anyone please recommend an app, that will let me diagnose and potentially understand the status of my hard drives? I was using Drive DX for a long time, but now it seems to only scan drives that have SAT Smart Driver, and apart from two hard drives (one being the computer itself, and another that has my iTunes library on it) every other drive I have isn’t SMART, they are just USB External hard drives? Any recommendations would be great

I suspect you wont find any software that can support external drives because the limitation is on the OS itself. Without SAT SMART driver or equivalent substitute there is no way for the software to get information from the drive. Now if the Apple would include similar capacity in a future OS that would be different but odds of that happening are minuscule...

You might consider Thunderbolt dock which should provide the information but they are quite pricey...

I just installed driveDX for the first time and when I clicked on my external, prompted me to install SMART drivers. Took a minute, then restart, then full testing access. Maybe they added this since your DL or perhaps yours didn't trigger for some reason ?
