Drobo 5D or ??

In the announcement of the new Drobo many people have voiced concern over Drobos in general and have alluded to other options. However I have looked and I think the only real alternatives in thunderbolt 4- or 5-bay storage are Drobo, Promise Pegasus, and Areca (I left out the OWC ThunderBay because it does not have hw RAID and sw RAID can't do RAID 5 except for some beta software). I have also heard of DATAOptic (so some such) but they are even more expensive. Am I missing something?

If you felt like taking a hands on approach you could build your own FreeNAS box.

You'll want ECC Memory if you plan on using ZFS though.

I think G-Tech has something. CineRAID, but I think thats the same as areca
