The way I understood it was that the mSATA SSD was more for smaller files and thumbnails etc?
Its also used as a cache to store data as you move it around?

Yes, that is what I thought but don't understand comments about new firmware supporting larger drive sizes?
 
For those who have a 5D running,
  • How is the speed?
  • Could you edit video from it?
  • Has anyone used the 5D as a boot drive?
  • Is there any lag/speedup/slowdown?
  • Does it compare to having an internal HD?

Just thinking of using a 5D with the new mac pro when it's out.

Check my YouTube channel for a video review, including speed tests. I regularly use mine along with FCPX and it works perfectly fine - just like an internal drive.
Ive noticed no lag or slowdowns, its been spot on!
