Heh, I tried searching the threads to see if this is actually feasible, but can't find anything. I really don't know where to post it actually...seeing as it technically is Mac OSX question...lol.

A few of my friends and I have been attempting to figure out ways to share various photos and such and have decided that since we're all on the same network in halls and have macs, best way would clearly be to just use the drop box.

Of course, this led me to wonder how much can one actually drop in the drop box? Do any of you guys know if there's a limit?

As I think it would be hilarious to just drop gigabytes worth of porn into a friend's (upon picking a friend who won't be too upset when he/she finds out) drop box and compromise their computer's ability to run (as I've always seen trouble upon getting to that last free gigabyte). I know, I know, it sounds really mean...but oh my gosh no one realises that their drop boxes are actually active so it'd be funny. And it's a fixable prank...so that must make it less cruel.........

I believe drop box limited only by amount of free space left on the drive. So you could conceivably put as much as will fit in there.

However...hehehe...
if you're into pranks, porn is kind of unimaginative. Look here for some better ones.

If you did that to me, I would have no choice but to cut you up and put you in my freezer.

I would be really hesitant to do this. OS X can start behaving rather strangely when it starts to run out of disk space. You'd hate to corrupt someone's directory structure or something by overwhelming their hard drive. I'm all for "easily fixable" pranks, but I think there's too much potential for real damage here.

As would I, for the same reasons. A drive that has 0 bytes free (or very few) can stop OS X from working at all. Unless you're prepared to rescue his system in target mode, I'd avoid the prank.

Ahh, those are fun...would allow for avoidance of this:

This is exactly why it's mostly in theory.

It does highlight a bit of a threat for ppl who are ones who have a Mac just cuz it's a bit easier

What would be a bit better for prank reasons and avoidance of the above is to put a big enough amount of crap in their drop box to make them notice...wait, didn't I have a bit more space than that? but not to have any possibly detrimental effect on the computer. This is part of the reason it would only work on certain ppl, as you'd need to know the hd space in advance.
