Just out of interest I looked at my old iBook G4 battery today to see it's health - I couldn't help but notice the original max capacity: 63433mAh, where as my new rMBP is around 8000mAh.

Why is this? do computers just use less power now? or is there some other battery stat that i'm missing?

The battery is just kaputt. I had it happen to my 2004 iBook some years ago, when it got a 22,000 mAh capacity but could only live on battery for 30 minutes or less.

    A 2008 MacBook has a capacity of approx. 4,000 mAh, a late 2008 15" MBP has a capacity of around 6,000 mAh, a 2009 17" MBP has a capacity of close to 13,000mAh. My 2004 iBook had a capacity of 3,000 to 4,000 mAh.

Okay, so that is something that happens to batteries when they get old? It had me really confused.
