I have a co-worker who dropped his in the parking lot and the bumper didn't do anything. he has a small nick in the glass now. he says he got over it but quickly went out and bought a VUE for the time being. He wants my CandyShell or Otter but they are no longer/not available at this time.

I bought a bumper this afternoon and I will be returning it this weekend. I'm too use to my CandyShell. Plus after hearing that the bumper really doesn't provide much protection (more for looks) it doesn't fit my needs. Although I still will buy an Orange one just to have it.

I dropped mine from the fifth floor of my office building and it bounced right back up to my hands. :)

Seriously, I am too chicken to try any kind of drop test. I do like the bumper, though. Looks nice with a carbon fiber back cover from PhantomSkinz dot com

I'm certain the bumper will HELP protect it from drops. I feel much better having a bumper on my phone than naked. And I don't like big bulky cases so this is a good balance for me. But I never expected the bumper to eliminate the danger of damage. That's just life with a gadget. And from all the stories on Macrumors and elsewhere, it's clear that the circumstances of every drop are different, and whether your phone will break or not is a crapshoot really. There are people that dropped a naked iPhone 4 from 5 feet and had little damage. There are others who dropped an iPhone in a bumper 2 feet and got damage. With the bumper on, your odds get better, but that's it. It's just odds. Good luck!
