The help section on their website indicates that Dropbox will silently update in the background, however, my current version is outdated at v1.2.52. The latest version appears to be v1.4.0. Is there any way I can update without losing my data or setting up everything all over again?

I am on Lion. Thanks.

I've used Dropbox reliably since it was released. One of it's distinct advantanges is reliable & flawless syncing.

Two thoughts come to mind.

1) If on WiFi, be sure your connected.

2) Although I've run old versions very successfully, theirs no drawback to keeping it up to date. I do it regularly now.

Can't help you with Lion, it's the first Mac OS in years I just don't care for. Although all my Macs have top of the line configurations with max ram & hi capacity, fast SSD's Lion is slower, has iOS Elements that slow my work flow (yes I've turned some off). So I'm going to wait & see if 10.8 has more to offer.

So it does auto update for you then? I'm not sure, I am connected almost always and it seems as if it just does not update. Do you know if there is a way to keep it up to date manually without uninstalling and resetting everything?

I just checked and mine wasn't updated either. No need do uninstall, just quit it, copy over the new version and reopen. Done for now. I'm not sure if it's going to stay updated.

Thanks for the advice, did this and everything is all up to date now. Hopefully it will start auto updating though.
