That doesn’t invalidate that it was prophetic, although it sounds to me like it may have been “obvious” that the platform companies could have copied them and put them out of business, which I totally agree with.

Yet Dropbox forged ahead anyway, which is my point - they went ahead even when they were destined to fail. And here we are.
Them themselves could have forged ahead for several reason we're not privy to.

You can change your Dropbox account to use any name you like. The name I use is unrelated to me as a person. Took me a while to realise I could do this.
Thanks for the tip. Perhaps I can change my account name. I'll try to find out.
Try that on iCloud and you end up with potential identity issues.
Indeed. I've always struggled with identity issues anyway 😬

How do you find the sync, upload & download speeds on Proton Drive?
I must admit, I'm not a heavy user. Uploads with large files are slow, but I think that's due to the asymmetric nature of my cable connection (500Mbps down/50 Mbps up). Downloads to iPhone with large files can sometimes be slow. Otherwise, I haven't noticed any issues. When I say large files and slow, I mean a 300MB file can take about a minute to download to iPhone. I'm not sure if Dropbox would be faster as it's been a long time since I used it. I do have it set up so frequently used files are available offline.

BTW, now that I think about it, the slower speeds make sense since their data is in Europe and I'm in CA. The average download speeds correspond to 10's of Mbps.

Whoever composing that email definitely doesn’t receive the memo.
They just doubled down...what is going on over there?! 🤣

Dropbox used to be my main cloud storage. I was a paid customer until 2020, when their client started crashing & had multiple syncing issues. That's when I dropped the box for good (pun intended). I mostly use my file server now, so I am not in a hurry to find a nice alternative (I tried Onedrive, and oh my god, it was aweful)
