Those of you who use iCloud Drive instead of Dropbox — does it actually sync files in a reasonable amount of time for you? I find that even a 10k file on my desktop can get stuck syncing for hours. This isn’t an isolated phenomenon. It’s very common.
It is hard to say how fast it syncs since it doesn't have a specialized app for storage on Mac and in iOS it is just Files (kind of Finder app). Photos do sync reasonably fast, give it few seconds, so do Keynote and Pages files.

I just tried to sync a PDF file uploaded from desktop and saw it appear in Files in a second or so.

So yes, experiment is successful. As for Dropbox, I liked it first, but its meager 2GB of storage is very limited, and paid is very expensive, so I have iCloud and very happy, also with Office 365 subscription, I get a huge OneDrive as well. I don't use Google or other storage apps, just iCloud and OneDrive.

I working with many shared folders for diffrent companies/ client In Dropbox and it works good / ok you have a file history’s also conflicts handles ok.

For those who use iCloud Drive I don’t understand how you working with clients and shared folder? Also can you work on a non Apple computer with same functionality?

And yes Dropbox seems to been wanking the last two years.

Well dropbox is like a virus these days!
Clumsy app, all the time reminding you to subscribe to further « value added » services,
no configurability.

I happily pass - OneDrive, NextCloud even iCloud are way better …

I use Dropbox for one purpose - anonymous file sharing.

Maybe I am being dumb, but I cannot see any way of sharing a file from iCloud without my name and/or email address being visible to the recipient. I don't want to play around with my Apple ID to achieve this.

I have a few files I want to make available, for read-only access or to download, by just posting a link.

Still, at least that means I only need the "free" version. As so many did, I moved everything else away when they ramped up costs massively.

I'm pretty sure this is sarcasm, but for anyone missing context:
- apple introduced released M1 in November 2020 - edited because they announced M1 in June 2020 at WWDC
- the lovely post where they said M1 support needed "more support" before their engineering team could give it the time of day happened July 2021.
This has nothing do to with M1, though. This is a change in the OS APIs... the ones Dropbox (and others) used were deprecated some time ago, and in MacOS 12.3 they were removed. Which is unusual, one would expect things like this only to get removed in major releases.

Dropbox is the still one of the fastest and most reliable if you are syncing in between multiple machines, especially with a Windows PC. I used to use OneDrive but switched to DropBox after the OneDrive update fiasco. I should have switched earlier to Dropbox...

Works great for me. I save things on my phone all the time to the "Desktop" folder of my iCloud drive and they instantly appear on my Mac desktop.

I too gave up on Dropbox for iCloud drive. I get that iCloud drive doesn't have all the same features, but it does everything I need.

It’s slower than dropbox but still fast. The real issue is that you can’t share files to non iCloud users.

Lol have you actually tried using it? It asks whoever clicked that link to log in to iCloud bro

No, it doesn't ask to log in, tested on my windows and other private browsers. You must be doing it wrong if you can't see that.

I've come to not trust the file indicators for iCloud drive. Right now, I'm looking at two folders in Documents that show "Waiting to Upload". When I open that folder, nothing in them show waiting to upload. On another Mac I have a folder showing "Downloading". But the two files there are already downloaded and match perfectly what's on the iCloud website in that folder. But I never expect Apple stuff to work perfectly.

When the Dropbox indicators used to be there, they were always correct. We'll see how they perform once Dropbox makes this migration and the file indicators make their reappearance.

I don't really like iCloud, due to i am a free user & i limited to 5 GB,
But Main Cons is i think was it iOS 13 or was it 14 or 15 i forgot.
But icloud messed up my icloud files of pages app.
So i don't really trust it completely to save my files.
+ i can't hide my identity due to now if you create a apple account you must have Two-factor authentication.
But if old account has none of Two-factor authentication, but has to be careful due to everytime it remind you to turn it on.

I like Dropbox, since i have 2 Free account with each 28.5+28.5 = 57 GB = its enough for me.
I can upload & download files by Documents by Readdle.
This app perfect. & i don't think the limit of Dropbox 3 device is limited to this.
But Documents app i noticed a little slower to upload than website uploading.
But i think this app works for mac m1 too.

I also use Readdle Documents with Dropbox. It’s a great combo that allows streaming video, which iCloud can’t do.
