Hi gals and guys,

so today was the day. On the last day of 2022 I finally managed to drop my 14Pro on the balcony onto concrete tiles. First time fall.

I have AppleCare+, I use the magsafe case and have little spigen camera protectors. One of the camera protectors was broken. Besides that, no visible damage on the outside.

I am still super mad at myself because I value that phone so much and had a rough year and I never expected to be that stupid to drop it in that situation but here I am.

So this thread is kind of pointless, but some reassurance would really make my day. Do you think I should be worried about internal damage? So far it is behaving normally, camera, sound, everything works.

Technically I should relax because I got AppleCare but still… can anyone relate?

Many thanks for reading,
happy new year 2023!

i wouldn't worry about it. first of all, you have protected the iphone in a magsafe case, you don't see any external defects and secondly, you even have applecare+. if there should ever be a problem, which i certainly don't expect, it will be replaced quickly.
enjoy the great device, try to forget it and happy new year.

If the camera lenses perform w/o obvious problems, the phone should be fine.
If the screen is un-marred it should be ok.
Besides, I see ads for phone cases that involve rampant abuse/giggles.

Relax….

Actually I can’t recall an iPhone suffering internal damage without a ding or scratch on the outside - and that’s outside bizarre things like water or heat damage.

First time drop probably won’t do it. But repair shops often see board level damage from repeated drops.

Contrary to popular belief, it’s common for damage to happen. The solder joints holding the sandwiched logic board together can tear. The camera OIS is mechanical and can fail. Green vertical lines on OLED are another common failure due to shock.

I feel your pain as I’m sure many of us on this forum do as well. Looks like your camera lens protector did it’s job. Other than that since your phone appears to be working fine just keep an eye out as I’m sure you will. Chances are it’ll continue to be fine and in a little while you’ll let go of your concerns.

Yes, but that is why i like electronics versus mechanical things. Engine can be overheated once in Death Valley but it will keep working fine until one day coolant is leaked into cylinders and done.
Electronics is much easier in that regard - most of the time if it is working then it is working. Luckily drop damages are visible right away - if everything works fine then there is nothing to worry about.

Extremely unlikely to have any kind of damage. But since you are worried about it and you have AppleCare+, take it to an Apple Store or an Authorized Service Provider, and tell them what happened. They can quickly run diagnostics to check every function on your phone.

These phones are very tough. It takes a lot to break them. For example in July I was run over by a car. Really! And all of the damage to my body was on the right side. Also on the right side was my iPhone 12 Pro Max in a holster attached to my belt. I had more broken bones than the hospital doctor’s wanted to tell me about, it took them about three months before they felt comfortable with me coming home, but guess what worked from the very start. That’s right, it’s my iPhone. It’s still working. In fact I am sending this to you from that same phone. They are very tough!!

My sincerest gratitude towards all you kind people for answering my dilemma which is probably just human.

It was touching and warming to read your personal stories, even though we're just strangers on the internet. This is the best example of what wonderful technique is available to us.

I contacted Apple today and they ran an internal diagnostic and cleared the phone!

I'm wishing you all a splendid 2023 with health, happiness and many occasions of luck, be it not dropping your phone at all or having kind people reassure you in any positive way!

What happened to you was much better than what happened to me. I shattered my iPhone 14 pro max, the first time I’ve ever broken an iPhone. I had AppleCare+, though, and within a week I had a brand new device. Absolutely worth it.
