The iPhone slipped off my jacket’s pocket while I was sitting and fell screen down on the floor (tile). My heart stopped when I heard the bang. Upon inspection I found nothing but later today I made a more thorough inspection with a flashlight. There are two tiny, hair-thin scratches on right side of the display, of the kind you only see with the right lighting and angle. I am amazed at how it didn’t get any further damage. Anyway, just to let you know about my experience. Hopefully you’ll be more cautious than me.

These are slippery phones and I would not carry one that wasn’t in a case.

I’ve noticed they’re more slippery than the previous ones with the glossy glass on the back. What I wouldn’t imagine is that it would slip off my pocket.

I prefer Apple’s silicone cases and I actually got the one in pine green for this iPhone. Today though I decided to go naked. Poor decision.
The phones do look good without a case on, but I can't risk it. I'm clumsy and have had my phone fall off my bed several times onto hardwood floors. Not worth the risk for me.

Nice testament to the claim of more durable. Most previous iPhones would had likely broke for sure. I’ve always cased. I had the leather case on my iPhone X a couple years ago and dropped it face down on hardwood. Was cringing, but that lip around the screen comes in REAL handy.

Had to send my apple clear case back because of a crack in it that I didn’t cause. Going case less til new one gets here. Pray for my phone.

Mine cracked too, at the bottom right corner, seemingly for no reason.

I’m pissed since I just bought this $3 case for $39 because I had to leave and couldn’t have a $1099 phone without protection.

this case is a POS

Eh other then it cracking I like the case. I like how clear it is.

Or just don’t put it in a place where it’s logical to think it could fall out.

I don’t use cases, because I hate them, so I’m hyperaware of where I put my phone, and how I hold it when I’m out and about. It takes a bit more mental effort, but that’s a trade off I’m comfortable making to not use a case.

You would rather use a case. That’s fine, but it’s not the only reasonable option.

If you had to use a flashlight to look for any damage, then you shouldn’t be looking in the first place. The only thing I would be concerned with, is if you actually purchased AppleCare for that phone versus using flashlight to exacerbate paranoia looking for tiny hairline scratches on the phone.

Fingers crossed. I actually hate that Clear Case. It gets oily and fingerprints all over it. It scratches easily as well.

I wish one day they’d actually make a screen out of a more scratch resistant material like sapphire. However the glass on this iPhone is quite scratch resistant as my unfortunate experience can tell.

Same here. They are the best for protection and the only one with a real high lip to protect the screen from face plants

My experience of taking the phone out of the otterbox cases is not good.
How easy is it to take the phone out the defender case?

I think the phone looks far better than any case. Just my opinion, but yeah - why cover it up? Just be careful and/or get AC+ in case of accidents.

I used the Otterbox Symmetry Series Clear Case for my XS Max and 11 Pro Max. Great protection plus you can see all of the phone. I have AC+ because I’m on the iPhone Upgrade Program.

I totally agree.... but I just can't stomach having to pay an additional $300-$400 to keep my phone protected (I'm adding in the price of AC+ and 1 to 2 drops bc without a case I know I'd shatter my back glass at least once). So I pay $30 to $50 for either a UAG or Apple leather/silicone case instead.

I returned my Apple Clear Case because the thing seemed to scratch and scuff just by being exposed to air. Also, I found it hard to remove. I just got the same Torras Ultra Thin Slim Fit case that I had for my XS Max, and I like it because it's easy on and off, and it's grippy. I don't find it to be "Ultra Thin", though. I carry my phone without a case 90% of the time.

I was listening to Accidental Tech Podcast, and caseless Casey Liss dropped his 11 Pro on concrete twelve hours after he received it and cracked the back glass. Argh.
