Having terrible AT&T reception I decided to try this test with both of my 3Gs iPhones. Although I got the test results and saw the number (-90 to -72 at different times) I never got the screen which the poster has shots of. ALSO, after ending the calls one of my phones is stuck on the number representation as opposed to the bars representation. Rebooting the phone does not seem to help. It probably makes no difference if a bar or a number tells me I have lousy reception, but I'd rather have the phone display bars as intended. Did I do something wrong? How can I get back to the bars representation?

In the not too distant future I'll be eating the cost of my contracts and buying new phones with Verizon. When I put these up on EBAY I want to make sure the phones are in great condition . . . even if the service they are designed to work with rots.

Just touch the signal area on the black bar where it says AT&T and it should switch back.

I apologies, I should have explained in my first post that those two screenshots are two different things.

The image to the left is of FCC Mobile Broadband SpeedTest app (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fcc-mobile-broadband-test/id357119507?mt=8) and is the same as SpeedTest.net.

The image to the right is of phone in Test Field Mode.

Now, regarding the Signal Strength not going away. The only way that will stay on top is if wile in Test Field Mode you did a force quit or a hard reset, and the only way to make it go away is to reset your Network Settings (Settings> General> Reset> Reset Network Settings). Tapping the signal strength will make it switch back to the bars, but it won't go away, it will periodically be switching back and forth on its own.

Thanks

Touching the bar switched it to the bars representation. I could care less if it switches on its own. I'll probably be switching to Verizon anyway. I just came from both the AT&T and Verizon stores. AT&T told me the tower nearest my office has been reported and will be repaired. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and a week or two to fix it. The new service will be costly, as I'll have to break two contracts and buy new equipment. I might have to pay slightly more for similar service. I'm willing to do it if it means reliable service.

Does anyone know the resale value of a 3Gs 16GB in excellent condition (not jailbroken) and a 3Gs 8GB?
