.DS files - what are they?

And what do they do?? Can you safely delete them or do without them.

I found a preference pane called BlueHarvest they can be used to stop them being created ( so as not to piss of our PC using friends - because they can see them even if they're invisible to us ).

I wanted to check before using it though.

They mostly exist to preserve icon locations in the Finder. You'll hardly notice them missing if you always use the column view.

An alternative approach might be to simply complain loudly whenever you encounter a Thumbs.db 🙂

ugh...i hate that so much. it was my very first automator lesson...teaching myself to remove that damn thumbs.db file 😡
