with "amateurish" i meant: you don't deliver any out of focus footage to a big tv-network if you want to get hired again. but ENG work or live-TV is different than concert videography, etc.
usually there's no b-cam and you just have to have a good shot of that critical soundbite of a politician for example.
also, with ENG work and concert/DSLR footage alike, if you're confident you're shots are good, you don't have to shoot that much coverage or have more time to try different shots and the editor has more choice and doesn't have to weed out bad shots when time is of the essence (and expensive).
but, back to the original question - imho it still depends on what you're shooting. sadly, there's no such thing as the ideal camera for every situation. (or i would have already bought it - a sony fs7 with that $ 33.000 canon 17-120 power-zoom lens would still be nice, though
