I happened to go into my VLC app last night, start streaming an MKV file with DTS audio and low and behold my receiver started decoding DTS. It sounds amazing! Not sure what change allowed this, but it bumps up the value of an AppleTV massively for higher-end home theaters.

Anyone else have this working?

Apple TV has been able to transmit bitstream a la DTS and Dolby Digital from the get go. It was always down to the application whether to do that or use the built in video layer that send PCM (for best quality). Perhaps VLC was updated to add support?
