ok there have been many rumors going around that the next iphone will feature a dual GSM/CDMA chip for both carriers. My question is that if that does happend does that mean all the differences the verizon iphone has will be no longer

ex.) the verizon iphone does not allow to hold or swap calls, or even talk and surf the web at the same time so if the next iphone is Dual GSM/CDMA will the verizon iphone be able all these things that the attt iphone can already do or will there be no difference

If it uses CDMA and not verizons LTE will have the same disadvantages the verizon iphone has Vs the GSM iphone 4.

I can't see Apple or Verizon wanting an unused sim tray just hanging out on the side of the phone.

Does Verizon not have "unused" sim trays in other 'world mode' gsm/cdma phones?

Besides, One model that can work on all networks is much easier in terms of manufacturing, logistics, retail, support, etc. In other countries people can buy an unlocked iPhone from apple and choose a carrier. This would let them do the same, and even choose between a gsm and cdma carrier.

ok thanks so whenever the iphone does go hopefully soon to the lte 4g than the verizon iphone wont have those disadvantages

And the same advantages. For instance, in the USA, having more 3G coverage.

Usually Verizon world phones even have an extra advantage, in that Verizon will unlock the GSM side so you can use cheaper SIMs overseas.

(Perhaps that's behind the rumors about the USA getting unlocked phones soon. ATT might have to match Verizon.)

The SIMs are usually hidden behind a replaceable battery.

Basically both phones will be merged into one. The catch is, you can only use the GSM -OR- the CDMA side with their respective properties; not a hybrid of both technologies.

LTE/4G iphones are not likely to happen this year anyway. Apple has to work on the battery issue; otherwise, the iphone will drain battery like an android.

if a dual cdma / gsm iphone is ever produced i wonder if a carrier would run a special: ie - At&t has a special that if you switch to at&t from verizon; at&t would pay the etf you created by switching. it would be awesome to be able to take one phone back and forth between carriers.
