Hello!

I'm currently having an issue where one of my two external monitors will not work with my MacBook Pro. I have one of the original MacBook Pros w/ Touch Bar that came out in late-2016 and have no issues if I hook it up to my current home setup (Laptop, monitor #1 connecting to laptop via HDMI cable that connects to a HyperDrive [from Sanho] that is directly connected to laptop, monitor #2 connecting to the laptop via an HDMI to USB-C cable), but if I swap in the newer replacement laptop that I've been issued that is the 2017 model of the same MacBook Pro w/ Touch Bar, monitor #2 will not work. If I switch cables with the monitors, then I can get monitor #2 to work, but monitor #1 (which would have the HDMI to USB-C cable) will then not work.

It feels like something has changed with the newer 2017 model - could it maybe be the cable just doesn't like the newer laptop? A driver? A setting? I'm kind of lost at this point and any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Everything still works if you switch back to the 2016 MBP? My first thought is that the 2016 supports HDMI output directly, while the 2017 needs an active adapter. I'm not sure about this, but you could check to see if the cable you're using for monitor #2 is a passive or active cable.

Correct! If I switch back, absolutely no issues at all with monitor #2. I'll do a little research on my existing HDMI to USB-C cable, but I know that it's made by Chotech.
