I'm new to the mac world and just got a friends old MacBook Pro. I had an old 19" HDTV that I want to hook up as a second monitor. It doesn't have an HDMI plug so I got a Mini Display port to DVI adapter and plugged that into a DVI to Component adapter. Was that dumb to think that would work? The Mac won't detect a second monitor.
Is there a way to get it to work? the only inputs the TV has are; component, composite, and S-Video.
Please help me out.

Just get the Mini-displayport to HDMI connector.

I use dual monitors every day, using the Mini-DP to DVI connector.

DVI will not work, if the only inputs are Composite, Component and S-Video.

How to: Connect a MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro to a TV

Just get the Mini-displayport to HDMI connector.
