Hi there, I've had my 2008 Macbook unibody rocking an SSD with the OS and a HDD with data for a while now.

I just noticed though that the HDD, which only has data and media files on it, has lots of hidden system files and folders, such as private, var, vm.

I don't know much about them, so I'm not messing with them, but as I understand it these are files and folders that should only be on the drive the OS is installed on right? They are taking up a good few GBs on the HDD (especially the sleep image) so if I can I'd like to get rid of them.

The HDD used to be the system drive before I got the SSD so I'm wondering if they are left over from that? But I am fairly sure I reformatted it which as I understand it recreates the partition map/scheme right, meaning I should't be able to see them even if they're?
