Omg, I'm upgrading now. I wonder if I'll be able to change Apple Maps! Or is it just browsers and mail? Or could this have already been done and I'm way behind?

Sett DDG as my default search engine some time ago and very satisfied. I became tired of Google asking me to verify I was not a robot time and time again with that stupid, annoying picture test, since all the cookies are removed after each session in Safari.

However, when I need Google specific apps, (because sometimes Google is very useful,) to read my Gmail, Maps, translate, etc, I also have the Chrome browser open as well. Though Safari is my default browser.

I've used Google search for as long as I can remember but recently over the last month or so I've steadily moved to DuckDuckGo, it's amazing the amount Google filters out and censors. I'm actually having to go to DDG in order to find stuff these days.
Odd, I've mostly been using to DDG for a while now, but there are still quite a few times where I go to Google or Bing to find things a little faster and better when DDG doesn't really surface what I'm looking for easily.

I have flipped to DDG SE on all my personal and work devices and even went a step further to install 1.1.1.1 app on iPhone. It provides VPN access to 1.1.1.1 DNS even over mobile network. In Australia, I was blown away by the speed boost in loading webpage even on Australia's 'fastest' network, Telstra.

One still can put a s! in the ddg search to get startpage ( google algoritm more or less) results. Some prefer startpage anyway over ddg. But I like the ddg iphone app with the fire and also the results mostly. I wonder if extentions will be possible in firefox. (Ublock origin)

Gotta say adguard with safari worked better than firefox or ddg with lockdown app. But lockdown app is great in general.

Does anyone know if there can be done something about the cookie dialog that appears since a few days everytime i go to youtube (in browser)? Thanks

I replaced my default email client but I have zero reason to change from Safari on my browser.

I haven't been keeping up with the changes on ios14, are apple now allowing other rendering/js engines or is it still just basically a different skin on Safari? I'm glad they are at least allowing alternatives though, will be worth upgrading once the dust has settled...

DuckDuckGo has been my default search engine for a while, but I'm not sure I'll switch to their app for my default browser, I still prefer Safari. At least there is a choice :)

If you didn't already know DDG uses bangs which are shortcuts that start with "!" and a abbreviation to search a specific site:-
Google-!g
Bing-!b
YouTube-!yt
Amazon-!amz
Wikipedia-!w
Wolfram Alpha-!walpha

There is a ton of them just search for DDG bangs.

I have been using DDG as my search engine for years now and love it! DDG is the best search engine replacement with privacy built in mind!

That's interesting. Can you give some examples. I just tried it, and dont' find it any better???

If anyone cared to to take a peak at the number of tracking cookies forced without your consent into the browser cache, they'd be appalled at the Wild Wild West that resides in there. It's a free for all of data tracking.

Pro Tip: Delete your cookies and browsing history after leaving a website or pay the consequences. Actually to get rid of trackers held in RAM, the browser has to be quit too.
The Data Trackers pretty much ruined the Internet
"...or pay the consequences." - do you mind if I ask what the consequences are? I'm assuming targetted ads, but is there more? I use ad blockers extensively, so I don't get ads at all anyway, but if I did, I think I'd prefer targetted ads to non. But is there something else I should be actually worried about?

Any independent news coverage get's yeeted pretty fast, usually any political topic is heavily stacked with CNN/NYT type sources.
I have tried to find video of certain incidents that happen and instead you'll get pages of CNN articles, I'll go to DDG and get the video in the first few search results for example. I'm trying to think of anything specific but it's usually stuff like that. I despise mainstream media in the US so I try to do my own research to get context.

Also plenty of stuff thats legitimate gets taken down by DMCA. I've had science journals gone from Google that were available via DDG.

Nice, thanks for that, that's great to know!

You're welcome. Not trying to stir things up politically, but Google really has been pushing hard to 'curate' results, be it to push clicks towards more mainstream sources or simply reduce the amount of videos of controversial incidents, either way DDG has become my go to for political/controversial topics as it seems much more reliable. I'm not after left wing or right wing propaganda, I just want the facts and let's be honest neither Fox or CNN is good for that.
