Pretty sure my Discover card removes my info from the dark web on a monthly basis as they find stuff. Can’t remember the last time I used the card though. Why pay for most of these services when you can them free from someone else.

The moment I read the word "subscription". 😓

FWIW - I got Aura Protection Plus as a benefit from my company and removal of data from data brokers has been completely useless via Aura.
that’s unfortunate. I’ve found success with a data-removal service Discover offered with my credit card—obviously that’s quite a commitment for such a service, I saw it more as an extra perk of Discover’s already-fantastic customer service. I’d imagine part of its success is in their refusal to outsource human labor for customer support.

Aura has always given me “YouTube sponsor scam” vibes.

I was thinking of getting onboard with one of these data removal service, still I can't decide which one.
Incogni, Aura, Delete me, now this one.
Eventually I'll have to choose one.

With regards to duckduckgo itself, I have been using it as my default search engine for 10 years and I'm 100% satisfied (I'm not too much of an interner power user though...)
I've tried a couple of the services, but they don't work.
Does anyone know of a removal service that does work?
I've tried Delete me.

I should be able to google/bing my name and not have any occurrences show up.

Has anyone anywhere at any time ever been harmed in the slightest degree by data mining and data brokers used for advertising?

I’ll answer my own question: No
Can you say, "Identity theft?"
Can you say, I can find out where you live and stalk you.
Can you say, I can find out your phone number and harass you.

Or you could just pay for Kagi and be the customer instead of the product.

Article: "here's a bundle of privacy services from a company."

You: "Don't do that! Instead pay a subscription for a search engine even though it has nothing to do with the functions of the products in this article!" Curiously, there are multiple posts with an unconvincing pattern of praising kagi out of nowhere and sounding a little off. Smells like astroturf, but with less sophistication than Chewlie's Chewing Gum.

if you can do a month to month... perhaps give it a shot for $9.99 and see how the data removal works? Far less than DeleteMe and what can they do? Put it back when you don't renew?

Would be a good way to try the service, and keep it if it works well

Good plan. Last year I started using McAfee on my home computers/iPhone/iPad, etc.

Was pleasantly surprised as it’s nowhere near as bad as I remember from my first experiences with it 10 years or so ago! It includes a VPN as well as all of the identity protection services, which I also signed up for. It did find a *ton* of my personal info on multiple data broker sites and was able to get them removed.

So…. so far, so good. And I’ll continue using it… for now!

I got to beta test the VPN. Honestly, it's pretty simple. I'm sure they changed, but there wasn't any option to change VPN server or anything. It was a one-and-done VPN where you just click connect and that's it.

I would definitely prefer to choose which geographic region that I'm connecting through.

Just a few examples:

- Certain health apps quietly share health data with data brokers who then sell it to employers who use it to screen applicants in order to reduce the cost of their health benefits
- Pregnant women are being tracked by governments in states where abortion is illegal
- A gay priest was outed after commercially available location data revealed that he had visited a gay bar
- Car insurance rates are being jacked up because data brokers share driver telemetry with the insurance companies behind their back
- Data mined by Cambridge Analytica with Facebook's help has been used to try and manipulate the 2016 presidential election. Similar techniques were also used to influence the Brexit vote, and who knows how they are being used today.
