Do want for nostalgia reasons. Marathon was far better though in its day.

3.x is backwards compatible if you put up a compatibility context. 10.7 does not support the compatibility context -- if you want OpenGL 3.x you'll have to make a clean break from legacy code.

In my opinion it shouldn't provide much performance improvement if an application is already coded using best practices. An OpenGL application coded under 2.x that uses best practices and all useful available extensions should be able to take advantage of all important 3.x features.

By extensions you are referring to the core ARB stuff right? Because I thought that the extensions were all vendor specific?

It is clear that there is demand for older games. Just re-release the OG Duke for Mac and get no complaints from me.

great then they are going to blame the bad game sales on mac due to apparent "fact" that macs are not for gaming.

yes I still hear that excuse to this day.

I hate that misconception. I first played Unreal on a PC, it was pretty cool, so I got it for my G3 Mac desktop with an ATI Rage 3d video card. It was so awesome!!! Best graphics I'd ever seen, to this day. You could see your reflection in the water when you were looking down into it. It was amazing...

That is interesting, I thought Crisis (PC) was the best I had ever seen (when running with every effect turned up).

yeah I know, I have seen my friends play games, and when I play them on my mac (through virtual machine by the way) it runs it at higher settings and with my display, it looks way better.

Macbook Pros get all the fun! :D
