Dumb question perhaps, Why do used 3GS's sell for so much on ebay

I am a relative newb, so forgive me for the stupid question, but why does the 3gs sell for so much on ebay; a lot of people are selling these things for more than they purchased them for and more than what a 4 sells for now.

Can someone explain the demand for the 3gs on craigslist and ebay?

Because there is no contract attached to them. Compare to a iPhone 4 "no commitment" @ $599/699, respectively.

Do you not understand subsidized and out of contract prices?
Offcourse they're going to sell them for more than the $199 they purchased them for. Thats with a 2 year contract.
