now that they're moving away from the greatest i/o standard mankind will ever know

My earbuds haven’t even been touched. Airpods are amazing and I’d never go back

I’m sure they’ll keep selling them for at least as long as they’re still offering them in box with every new iPhone

People will look back at wired earphone like a stone tablet. Wireless is the future and I like it.
Hahaha no way. Wireless earstuff is a fad on par (in aesthetics and utility) with bluetooth headsets.

I’m not sure you realize how stupid people look with those on. I mean, sure there’s no wire. But you also never get to kiss a girl again.

You get a free pair with the phone when you buy it.
Yah i know but i burn through a pair every couple months.

Bluetooth is the new normal and has been for a while now but feel free to continue to live in 1993.

I find it somewhat amusing that people are willing to look like complete and total dweebs, and sacrifice so much social capital and aesthetic sensibility for like... a minor (in?)convenience like that.

Wireless is the new normal. Your opinion will be outdated if it isn’t already. Your perspective further reeks of insecurity.

You yourself started this with the title “dumb question”. Wired sounds better but wireless is more convenient. They will still make the wired headphone but if you really cared you would buy a better brand. As for looks I asked my teens, they tell me wired means you can’t pay for wireless. Sounds rude to me but reality is I would only go back to wired if I lose my AirPods and really need something in a pinch. Don’t care about looks when I’m so dang comfortable.

In NYC, my informal observations show that wired still dominates the market. I like observing on the subway how many people use earbuds. I find it amazing the number of people that use headphones. They look so dorky, but then again, so do earpods.
No one notices my earbuds. That's cuz they're hearing aids that can stream... I call them my $7000 earbuds ;) Now you have something to look forward to when you get ancient.

You may not realize this, but they look exactly the same as having a set of earbuds in. There's just less stuff. In one case, you have things stuck in your ears and wires dangling all over your body, in the other case you just have things stuck in your ears.

You have things stuck in your ears in both cases.

As an aside, I don't know if you normally have a hard enough time getting girls to kiss you that you look for things like whether or not there are wires attached to your earbuds as a determining factor, but for most of us, that doesn't have any kind of negative impact. And, honestly, I doubt they'd have that kind of impact on you.

Not having the wires is exceptionally freeing. You should try it some time.

This reminds me of the transition to bike helmets. They weren’t really used when I grew up. People who used them looked like “dweebs”, in the words of those too young to vote. Now if you don’t have one it looks like you can’t afford it.

I don’t think that wireless earbuds look dorky, and wouldn’t care much if they did, but I think you’re right, wired is still the norm and probably will be for a few more years. Techies and early adopters tend to have a skewed perception of how average people use tech.

If that's really a deal-breaker, I wouldn't want to kiss them, either.

Bike helmets are still SUPER dweeby and lame.

Oh dude I have a super sicko set of cans. I just like to also have earbuds for kick-arounds when I’m doing sports.

I live around, and have ridden, some world class mountain biking trails. Helmets aren’t “lame”. The only choices are whether to wear a traditional helmet, full face, and body armour. This mentality of gear carries over to casual street riding around here. No gear = no money + blind stupidity. You see, it’s all perspective.

If ear buds had never been invented and you showed someone two similar looking models with the only real difference being one has a wire running down your body I’m suspect it would be the strange one. Perspective.

Yah but they look stupid. Ask anyone. Like... this has happened before. Bluetooth headsets boomed 10 years ago, and only the dweebiest dilholes wore them, and everyone else wondered what the **** was wrong with them when they left the room. The exact same cultural dynamic is at play again now. Like, “Yeah Jon’s alright. But he wears those weird things in his ears.” “Yeah it’s weird. I bet he vapes.” “Hahaha yeah totally. And like orders burgers with no pickles.” “HAHAHA Jon’s such a douche.”

It’s not like ‘bluetooth is the future.’ It’s the past. This exact same technology had its day already. Jawbone. Whatever. Humanity tried it already and we collectively decided it was lame. The same will occur this time.

it’s like when you see someone talking to a Siri assistant thing in public. You’re instantly like “just type it out jackweed. what’s wrong with you?”

It’s the same reason why google glass didnt work, or why wearable tech will never be a thing. People don’t like people who have stupid plastic **** attached to their heads. It’s just odious and offputting.

If your expecting to get a kiss with wearing wired earbuds, you got much more sad problems to worry about.
