Dumb Question?

Ok how does your computer know what your serial number is... I ask this because I have replaced my harddrive and RAM both places where something like a serial number could be? Just curious

I'm pretty sure that it's stored in a chip on the logic board.

I believe your serial number is programmed into the logic board. In the case you have a logic board replacement, sometimes the Mac won't indicate the new serial number, or any serial number at all.
