Nope, in the corporate world, "creeping featuritis" is a real problem. I hope Apple can keep their iPods minimalist but any other company would have added a ton of features, none of which would work properly.

We have the same problem at work with the email software we're writing,. Some senior manager thinks it would be cool to have some feature (that only he and his wife would use) so demands it be offered. We (the developers) push back and say we should get the current features working right. After a couple of weeks of "discussions" our immediate manager tells us that he's been told that we're rocking the boat and no one's expendable these days, so we waste weeks, working 12 hour days, implementing the new feature and have to do the new release still with bugs from two releases ago since we haven't had time to fix them because the release date is set in stone.

Phew, I didn't realise how pissed off I was about that until just now ...

I think that's what is called in the business "Added Value" but I need to check with Dilbert on that one.

After the battery runs out I can't replace it, whats the point of an MP3 player that you can only use for 12 hours then you can never use it again.

Did someone really think that??!!

Oh dear.

My funniest story was when I was telling my mum about what an iPod is, and then she saw my brother's iBook and assumed that was an iPod. She was still really impressed that ALL of his music could fit in it and that it was so small (only 14" across!!).
I wish I could be impressed that easily!!!

Well it is not a iPod complaint, but it is a Mac. I have this ignorant friend that keeps on saying, " Oh wait a Mac can't right click." I keep on telling him you just have to press control-click or just go buy a 2 button mouse. But, he keeps on saying that. I feel like knocking him to reality too.

This anti-mac complaint is mind-boggling. A teacher friend in our school system was told by their IT person not to get a Mac because they "cause viruses" Exact quote

Hmm... well, the more Macs there are in use, the smaller the proportion of Windows computers there will be, and assuming a constant rate of virus infection, that does mean a higher density of viruses-per-Windows-PC.

As for the iPod... people want it both ways. When I bought my iPod it was a 15 gig 3rd generation one, and it came with the iPod dock, the slipcase, and the Firewire cable. But at the time it cost me $600 Canadian. People complained, it's too expensive! Lower the price!

Nowadays you can buy a better, similar iPod for under $400 (Canadian)... but it doesn't come with the case, dock, or Firewire cable. And now people complain, it doesn't come with all the accessories! Don't make me pay extra for them!

Personally I like having the choice. If you don't need those things, don't buy them, and enjoy your cheaper iPod. If you're like me and you do, you buy them separately, and it works out to about the same as the original bundle price would have been.

in reply to the first post, you should've sarcastictly said "oh yeah but it comes pre-loaded with (# of 1,000's of songs your iPod can hold) unfortunatly Apple, and better yet Steve Jobs chooses what songs you should have on it". And see how seriously they will take you.

I think I can beat that dumb comment with this one...

Kid- "iPods suck!"
Me- "Why do you say that?"
Kid- "They're too big"

yes, he was talking about the size of the actual iPod, not the hard drive size.

Have they seen other digital audio players? They're all pretty much the same size, if not even a little bigger.

And I just thought of something, why is when I hear or read "Macs/iPods suck", and someone as for a reason why, I usually expect a dumb/ignorant answer?

Before you know it, people are going to say, "the iPod sucks, it doesn't come with a built-in stove"

If they want a stove, they could always buy a RevA 12inch PowerBook, now those things were hot enough to cook some food.

most people seem to think that you cant use an ipod an an external drive, i have to show them it mounting on my ibook for them to believe me.

they both think that an iPod should have an integrated Speaker, Microphone, flashlight, and laser pointer.

Keep the Swiss Army off of my Pod!

"When iPod's have come with compass, tin can opener, panic horn, and stun gun. and a cheese slicer... then I might be convinced to buy one of those fan d dangled things..."

sorry, lame joke. I just woke up, its 3:50 in the morning here.

My iPod shuffle rocks, its great, wouldn't change it one bit.
:D

Some kid dropped their iPod (actually it was THROWN) and then complained it didn't work afterwards.

Now his Dell DJ died... for no reason. Whereas the iPod has a huge dent in it. Hehe.

Ya, I hate people that drop their iPods then complain that it doesn't work!

Nearly a year ago, in a department store, a man was looking to buy an iPod. He asked how it charges, and the salesman told him he needed a USB - Firewire cable to charge it ... I corrected him and told him that there was a wall charger included ... the guy already established that he had firewire on his PC. Absolutely ludacris.
