Ok guys this a dumb question but I was perplexed so I'll post it here :)

I have a MBP with 4 gig of ram, when I go into the activity monitor it shows only 3.75gig

fair enough, I booted (like I always do) the computer using the default 32bit kernel.

For giggles I rebooted with the 64bit kernel and wouldn't you know it, I still saw 3.75gig?

Any explanation for that.
 
If I recall correctly that model does not have dedicated RAM for the video card so it grabs 256MB from the main memory and, as a result, does not show up for the rest of the system to use.
