Anyone else debating whether to hold out for the 20th anniversary iPhone or go for the iPhone Duo?

The Duo really intrigues me, and I’m definitely interested in the foldable design, but I still have some questions about durability, battery life, how practical it’ll be day to day, and whether it’s worth jumping into the first generation.

At the same time, I’m wondering what Apple might have planned for the 20th anniversary iPhone and whether that’ll be the one worth waiting for.

What’s everyone thinking? Duo or hold out for the 20th anniversary iPhone?

Zero interest in a duo personally.

I can see the customer they would appeal to, at whatever cost - but it isn't me. I'd rather carry multiple devices for redundancy, cost effectiveness, durability and ability to test beta software, etc. on a different device.

But I can certainly see the company exec it cold appeal to. That and the hardcore apple fan who has plenty of disposable income and has run out of other more interesting things to splurge on.

I actually am a bit torn here as well. I didn't expect to like the Duo but I do... even though I cant see any great use cases for me (dont watch a lot of videos and not into gaming). I was a huge fan of the iPhone X and so I can't decide.

I’m holding out for 20th anniversary, Apple are on a great path with both 18 Pro Max and Duo, it makes me more excited for what we will see next year.

I am hoping the Duo is a resounding success that pushes them to bring a Duo Max of sorts in a few years.

I have the 17 Pro Max. Definitely waiting for the 20th anniversary. Not buying a Duo until there is a telephoto lens at least. Not having FaceID too is bad. Also pricing in my country is around $3160 for 256GB Duo and I am definitely not going to pay so much especially for a 1st generation foldable from Apple.

If the Duo 2 has telephoto next year, then it will be a harder decision for me. So far the anniversary phone it is. The price gap is also a factor. Even if the Duo 2 remains at $2000 the anniversary may cost $1500.

I put anniversary but assuming its the Pro Max anniversary iPhone, not a foldable. I have zero interest in a folding phone.

Yeah. That slightly scary (to me) possibility that the anniversary phone might be based on the Duo not the Pro/Pro-Max occurred to me too. I really hope not.

I wouldn't say that I have zero interest in a folding phone, I was actually more impressed with the Duo presentation than I expected to be, but for me to switch to a foldable Apple would need to get the folded size down to no thicker than my current iPhone Pro Max - I don't want any bigger bulge in the pocket where I keep my phone when out and about - and I can't see Apple getting things compact (thin) enough to get to that point for quite a few more years yet, at least without unacceptable (to me) compromises on battery life and maybe dumbing down the cameras even more.

I think it would be quite disappointing for Apple to base a twentieth anniversary phone arounf the Duo and not do something for the lions share of their user-base who won't be Duo users. You just never know though, Apple are so caught up pushing the Duo hype, they might lose touch in that regard.

I said I have zero interest in the Duo because I won't buy a phone with moving parts. I did that 20 years ago and am happy with a solid slab smartphone that can be dropped and used in harsh environments without worry. I'm also never paying £2k for a phone on principle and have an iPad for larger screen content when needed. I don't think the Duo is aimed at people like me though.

Anniversary….. but I am sooooo very tempted by the duo after watching the keynote. I reserve the right to change my mind if I get FOMO once it’s in people’s hands 🤣🤣

I was planning on sticking with my 16 Pro, but 3D printed a model of the Duo and I really like the form factor. It really works and feels good. Obviously the weight and other elements will change the actual experience, but it was the shape that initially made me thing ‘nah’.

Having now tried a mock up, I can really see it working. So thinking I’ll go for the Duo now.

Just waiting for what the 20th Anniversary iPhone model will actually look like as well as the specifications.

Also expecting a flood of leaks and rumors.
