crazy. when I worked at two different stores in the 2009-2019 timeframe I saw certain regular individuals at the Genius Bar getting phones swapped that wouldn’t turn on. some got turned away, but a lot were able to get their phones swapped…

Apple will never see their money from these 2.

They should have got 10 years. with just 4 they will be out in less than 2 years.
In federal court the best a convict can get is a 15% reduction in the sentence, so they should be out in 3 yrs, 5 months or so.

Ordering them to pay restitution to Apple is a joke. How often are corporations ordered to pay 50% in damages when they fraud consumers?

Interesting how much margin they can make out of these fakes. Given that these have to have the right appearance and be able to turn on, run iOS GUI and be able to show the model number and SN, it’s not going to just some Android internal ie. Costly. All a bit stupid to run this kind of stunt and not expecting to get caught.

Why is it always the Chinese who are scamming Apple?
Because others get less publicised. In the US these days, it’s always China, China, China… A pathological and toxic national paranoid obsession these days as observed from Australia,

I lived in China for 10 years. It’s culturally shared that in business, outmaneuvering someone is seen as being smarter, better businessman, just another way to extract better value. Copyright and other intellectual property rights aren’t taken seriously. The Chinese government generally won’t prosecute its citizens when a foreign company raises issues. This isn’t just a cognitive bias against China, China, China. It reflects a national business ethos and a general lack of accountability for anyone caught engaging in these practices on the mainland. So, it’s not just about differing perspectives; your viewpoint is fundamentally incorrect. I tried to find a gentler way to express this, but the fact is, you’re simply wrong.
